Legendary English electronic rock band Depeche Mode kicked off their ‘Global Spirit Tour’ last week in Stockholm, Sweden. Bringing out The Raveonettes, War Paint, Algiers and The Horrors for select dates throughout the six-month stretch of dates, this tour is one for any music lovers’ record books.

The tour is only three dates in and Depeche Mode are already leaving fans with goosebumps. At the opening night of the tour at Friends Arena, the band played half of their new 12-track album, ‘Spirit’ with a combination of older songs. Check out their setlist for the opening night of the tour here.

‘Spirit’ is Depeche Mode’s 14th studio album, released on March 17 of this year. With tracks from the album like “Cover Me”, the narrator explores another planet, only to end up being in a space very similar to Earth. To the story teller’s dismay he realizes “if he wants things to change, he’s going to have to implement it.” With light undertones, the album is not outwardly political yet makes a subtle and relatable statement in our country’s current climate.

In addition to playing songs that are ‘out of this world’, they treated fans to an intimate and unforgettable cover of David Bowie’s “Heroes.” Watch a chilling highlight from the first stop of the tour, where the rock n’ roll heroes paid homage to a fellow icon. Depeche mode previously recorded the same Bowie cover in an intimate setting at New York’s High Line park. “I was so moved, I barely held it together, to be honest,” vocalist Dave Gahan told Rolling Stone Magazine.

Dave Gahan celebrates his 55th birthday today as the band plays Antwerp, Belgium at SportPaleis. Be sure to catch the Global Spirit Tour which makes stops around the world ranging from France, Portugal, Mexico, Ukraine, America and more in between.
